Instructions

These windows for the MMI K-27 locomotive are laser-cut Plexiglas for exact fit. They replace the sheet material set behind the die-cast cab side windows, removing the “deep set” windows on the stock model. Since the cab is die-cast, some light filing of each pane may be necessary for the best fit.

We recommend wearing cotton gloves or other protection to avoid leaving fingerprints on the surface of the window “panes.” Leave the paper covering on the Plexiglas until you are ready to install the window. The cab has a large amount of draft and each Plexiglas pane has matching draft for fit. When oriented properly, the pane should “plug” into the cab opening. Test fit each pane, then use a permanent black marker to “paint” the four edges of the pane. The black marker helps to disguises the thickness of the pane.

The panes can be installed with Microscale’s “Kristal Klear,” thinned white glue, MEK (which will soften the model’s paint but won’t affect the Plexiglas,) or Aleen’s “Tacky Glue” (a craft product.)

The pane should be about .010” below the top of the sash mullions. Try to get each pane level, but some small varying amount of “tilt” can add character to your model.
