The MKT Railroad acquired a number of 37’ double sheathed boxcar in the early part of the 20th century. The cars were built by Pressed Steel Car Company and American Car & Foundry and numbered in the 74105 to 75597 series. The MKT expanded their fleet of cars in the 1920s a large group of 40’ single sheathed cars which will be released by Ultra Scale as a new kit. Following WWII, the Katy started purchasing a large fleet of Pullman Standard PS-1 40’ all-steel boxcars. This permitted the retirement of the double sheathed car and single sheathed cars to a lesser extent. The October 1949 Official Railway Equipment Register listed 67 cars still in revenue service. A number of the double sheathed cars were converted to maintenance of way service and as caboose both as side door and conventional end platform cars. All of the 37’ cars were removed from revenue service in the early 1950s.
